Problems during filming

During our filming we came across many problems which was preventing us as a group to produce our final outcome. Despite us having our own individual problems we also faced serious issues that were very hard and challenging to over come.

We have a toddler presented in our short film who is used mainly throughout however there are some scenes where his presence is not required. At those particular times its hard to find a way to keep the toddler quiet, he gets irritated really easily, he is not use to baby sitters and and also there was always two out of the three group members that were there to film so both bodies had to be present for the filming to be accurate.

Our main character had a problem of when she's feeling down she would go out and look at animals. this became a real problem because not only would she look at the animals she would actually end up buying one to take home so during the filming we would have a new pet present in the house making the noise more harder to control so as soon as we find a solution to one animals noise another one appears delaying our filming time trying to get the animal to stay quiet.

Sickness was a massive issue for use, we all became sick at one point but we still aimed to fight on. The massive set back was when our main character fell ill. She became so ill we had to take her to the hospital there was no means of getting hold of her in anyway eventually we had to stop waiting around and go in search for her.

We spent a massive amount of time wasting just waiting to film something that wasn't relevant or even was a massive importance towards our production which we could have used that time wisely to get film things we had not filmed yet or to start some of the editing so we could figure out what else we could do to boost up the ratings

Researched Documentaries

Dreams of a life

The boy who's skin fell off

I went to the 2014 film festival in south bank looking at various feature films from universities all over although they were on different genres i mainly focussed on the documentaries as that is the particular unit i'm currently studying and i feel it would be good to take notes on what links i they all make and what they all have in common and what works well from what doesn't.

Documentary; idea search

Chosen idea

"Single Mothers going or been through hell but having the courage to look after their family and making something of themselves despite being alone."

Finding ways to get a story

Vox pop
Internet Research
Question and answers
Asking people we know
Simply roaming the streets looking and speaking to any woman walking alone.

Me and the rest of the Group intended on doing a vox pop but things did not work out so we decided to  do the others instead:

Internet research

We looked on the internet at support groups for single mother- We came to a brick wall but continued our search going a little further by looking for support groups for mothers in general rather than just single mothers

Questions and answers

I went around the studio campus and the university campus asking various people of all ages and gender what they look for in a documentary?  for our particular topic whats more effective?  and would wan to hear the child's point of view as well as the mothers of just the mothers alone.

Asking people we know

I went around asking all the mothers i knew and asked about their story this led me to walking around on the street asking all mothers i had seen on their own.

DIRECTIONS UNIT: Sound Design

SOUND DESIGN- Gregory Crewdson
Man in the street.

I chose this picture because it reminded me of a scene from the movie 'house of wax'. Although the film is a horror i didnt want to create an eerie effects towards the image. I didnt want the sounds to be obvious towards selective points in the image so using only a few spotted icons i created a story line based on the lonley man, the telephone wire and the seen weather condition.
I chose to go with the idea of a man goes out to a phone box to make a call but the call isnt connected making him go home drink and cry.
the story line is very minimal and there is no movement in the image but with the sounds i wanted the audience to create questions thinking, who is he calling?  why is there no connection? where did he go to make the call? whys he crying? etc.

Having a workshop with Ferg learning how to work with 7D cameras. learnt the pros and cons of using  a 7D as well as extended equiptent such as microphones to get a better sound quality.
working in small groups we created a short clip as a way of experimenting with the camera itself.
